A Quick Look at Colored Contact Lenses

It was in the 1930s when a makeup artist asked an ophthalmologist if it was possible to create a contact lens that would change their actor’s eye color. As a result of that simple question, the movie “Miracles for Sale” came to be known as the first to use cosmetic colored lenses. Today, this type of contact lens not only allows you to change your eye color, but also to create a variety of looks – scary, cute, weird, etc.

As its name implies, colored contacts are tinted with a variety of hues. Manufacturers are required to adhere to a set of guidelines to ensure the lenses are safe to wear. There are visibility tints that don’t really affect the color of your eyes, but make it easier for you to find the lenses in case you drop them. And then there are also natural looking colored contacts meant to deepen or complement your natural eye color to make it more arresting or attractive. Finally, there are opaque tints that completely change the color of your eyes.

Colored contact lenses are available both in plano or prescriptions forms. Plano lenses are used exclusively for cosmetic purposes whereas prescriptive lenses are used to correct vision problems like astigmatism, farsightedness, and nearsightedness. Note that the safety rules governing the use of regular contact lenses also apply to colored contacts. Make sure you know these rules and follow them strictly if you’re considering wearing colored contacts for the first time.

Among the types of colored contacts that are currently very popular are circle lenses, which make your pupils look a bit larger than normal. Women, in particular, enjoy these lenses because they give you a doll-eyed look. Doll eyes are generally believed to make one look prettier. There are also designs like those of the GEO Holicat collection that perfectly complement cat’s eye makeup. These designs are ideal for those who want to achieve a striking look.

Whatever type of colored contacts you choose to wear, whether it is regular-sized or circle lenses, whether you need prescription lenses or plano lenses, be sure to consult your eye doctor before making a purchase. There are many potential dangers associated with wearing colored contacts, and these dangers are exacerbated when you wear the contacts without your doctor’s guidance. Colored lenses in general, and circle lenses in particular, can indeed be a lot of fun to wear as long as you take all the necessary precautions and follow your doctor’s instructions as regards wear and care.
